Research and Training During the last decade Dr. Núñez has been researching the therapeutic effects of a holistic drumming approach he developed. The investigations have included evaluating the approach in its entirety, as well as specific segments of the method, such as particular rhythms, songs, medicinal plants, and other elements. He utilizes and integrates clinical biofeedback, standardized tools, surveys, personal testimonials, and community feedback to discover information. Most recently, his therapeutic drumming approach received recognition as a Community Defined Evidence Practice from the University of South Florida, through a grant from SAMHSA. For preliminary information see the National Network to Eliminate Disparities in Behavioral Health; http://www.nned.net/index-nned.php/NNED_content/standard_article/279/ Dr. Núñez offers a training apprenticeship to clinical graduate students, licensed professionals, musicians, and other individuals committed to community service. He continues to deliver medicinal drumming circles, trainings, workshops, and lectures, throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, and is working on a text detailing the specifics of the method. In addition to facilitating forums designed to restore community balance and health; a significant portion of his work focuses on using medicinal drumming to help individuals move through the process of recovery from traumatic stress and injury.
